Russian Manicure
What is a Russian Manicure?
A Russian manicure is a nail care technique that emphasizes precision and detail. It involves using specialized tools to clean, exfoliate, and smooth the cuticles and surrounding skin around the nail. This method is known for its focus on the health and appearance of the nails and skin. By pushing and lifting back the cuticle, product can be applied as far up the nail plate as possible, resulting in a seamless product application and longer lasting nails.
When Do I Recommend Russian Manicure?
I will always recommend a Russian manicure to my clients who are prone to hang nails, dry skin, and/or thick sticky cuticles. A Russian manicure can do wonders for people who have callused fingers from lots of writing or other work that may be hard on the hands/fingers. It is very beneficial for those that wash their hands and/or sanitize their hands frequently as dry, flaky, cracked skin could use extra care, exfoliating, and polishing.
When Do I NOT Recommend a Russian Manicure?
Russian manicures can be considered controversial by some people, but at Nails By Heaven in Sudbury Ontario we always do a very thorough consultation so we can avoid much of the risk. I always ask a series of questions during the consultation to ensure a Russian manicure isn't given to those more susceptible to negative outcomes. I do not recommend Russian manicures when a person is naturally more prone to finger/cuticle infections. If you are in a line of work that constantly has your hands dirty, I wont recommend getting a Russian manicure.
Customizing the treatment to the person
Depending on the answers you provide and what your skin/cuticles look like, I will always talk through accommodations or alternatives to a full Russian manicure if required. For example, if the skin around your nail needs extra care (dry, callused, hang nails, etc.) but you know you are susceptible to getting cuticle/finger infections, we don't have to lift the cuticle pocket but can do all the other skin care step involved in the Russian manicure.
